Lovely SA 2015
Day 25 at 18 Feb 2015
Gansbaai at Whale Song lodge (Standard Room)
"I woke up very early in the morning, read a bit and I felt asleep again. We got up at 7.30h and went for breakfast 8.30h. We were sitting on a big table with other guests, two French speaking Swiss couple, which didn’t say a word. When they went off we had a nice chat with lady of the house and Stan gave us some tips and directions.
We went around 10 o’clock to the Hemel and Aarde Wine Route. First we went to Hamilton Russel Vineyards. The wine was nice, for our taste not so special and the wine tasting was actually a bit strange. We could also not have a cellar tour. It was OK but we would not go there again or recommend it to other people. But we did buy a nice Chardonnay!
After that we went to Creation Vineyard. That was very nice. The setting was quite nice and you could have also a taste and wine pairing. Because we had a lunch reservation we didn’t do that. We just had the wine tasting. Also here the wine was nice but not 100% to our likings. The wine tasting was very well done and we bought also here a nice bottle of Merlot Reserve. Unfortunately we could not taste all the wines we wanted to because we had that lunch reservation. We will come back again and then have the wine pairing / lunch. The only thing we did not like was that it got very loud as soon as more people arrived.
We carried on the Moggs Country Cookhouse. That was a quite unusual tweedy place. The service was very good and quick. Ed had a Salmon Burger and I a super fantastic tender lamb shank. For dessert we had chocolate mousse and berry ice cream.
After that we went back to Gansbaai were we arrived 16.25h. We walked a bit, went to our room I downloaded the photo’s and we had a little nap.
After a refreshing shower we went to have dinner at our Guest Lodge. That was lekker and romantic. Just the two of us with a choice of home made breads, Parma Ham, Salmon Trout, two cheeses, olives, a sliced apple, Almonds and of course a nice bottle of wine, which we did not finished … by the way! ;-)
We went later in our room read a bit, wrote some mails and went to bed around 22.00h"
